Cartoons

Jon Peaty had a great sense of fun. There were frequent outbursts of laughter in the family. The artist was a performer, on stage and on the page. This started at an early age, the artist penning illustrated stories regarding escapades in his own family of origin.

He also enjoyed the performances of others, especially comedians, who highlighted the folly of much human behaviour.

Laughter came easily to him, often to the point of tears.

This sense of fun can be seen in the commercial cartoon fragments we have assembled for the montage shown here.

The cartooning skill was put to use for decorating local public events.

Jon marked private, personal or family occasions such as birthdays and house moves with cartoon cards, always cheerful, and specific to the receiver. A Christmas card would also be created and circulated to friends, businesses and family each year.
